The Comox Valley Community Foundation (CVCF) recently distributed an additional $51,170 in grants towards six local charities supporting populations experiencing heightened vulnerability as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The grants are part of the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF).
“Since the COVID-19 pandemic was declared, community-based charities and non-profit organizations have been working tirelessly to provide emergency support, in particular to individuals and communities experiencing heightened vulnerability,” said CVCF president Matt Beckett. “We know the need for funding is still significant and we’re continuing to advocate for broader recovery and stabilization support for the charitable sector.”
The latest grants include:
• Cumberland Community Schools Society - $10,000 for the extension of its Food Share program through Feb 28/2021 (Food Shed and Healthy Food Boxes);
• Comox Valley Senior Support Society - $5,000 towards counselling support for low-income seniors to combat impact of isolation;
• Coalition to End Homelessness (via Comox Valley Transition Society) - $10,000 for the Connect Dinner Program – provision of a hot meal each evening at the Connect Centre;
• Glacier View Lodge Society - $6,201 to go towards supporting safety during visitations (additional screening supplies, barriers, disposable PPE & masks to increase visitation at the facility);
• Hornby Denman Community Health Care Society - $4,800 to be used for transportation for rural, remote and low-income Seniors – inclusive of taxis, mileage reimbursement for volunteers, and grocery shopping and delivery;
• LUSH Valley Food Action Society - $15,169 for the Hot Meal Delivery Program from Jan-Mar 2021 – 600 meals/week.
